Mental health is integral to overall health and well-being and is just as important as physical health. Mental illness can influence the onset, progression, and outcome of other illnesses and often correlates with health risk behaviors such as substance abuse, tobacco use, and physical inactivity. OPHI works to emphasize the promotion of behavioral health through a whole-population and strength-based approach.  There are several tools that enhance competencies and optimize positive mental health outcomes. OPHI supports equitable and comprehensive policies aimed at bridging the gap for clients to mental health services.
